Bwana lounge chair by Finn Juhl sold
Finn Juhl was a Danish architect, interior and industrial designer, most known for his furniture design.
He was one of the pioneer figures in the creation of Danish Design and introduced Danish Modern to America. Along with Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, and Borge Mogensen they promoted the danish furniture anesthetics. A stylistic maverick he embraced expressively, free flowing shape chairs and sofa designs incorporating curved forms that are elegant and ergonomic.
The Bwana chair by Finn Juhl design– this one from our personal collection. The Bwana lounge chair was produced in Denmark and the design allowed it to be disassembled for economical shipping. Like Juhl’s Chieftain chair, the design references tribal motifs. Gorgeous wood grain, a sculptural teak form and exposed frame with carved round armrests.
We had the teak frame restored it’s in very good condition with appropriate wear for a piece of this age. The teak, with beautiful, rich grain, is still in good condition. The upholstery has wear consistent with age and use. (30 January 1912 – 17 May 1989)
